Lame Political Campaigning

A while back there was a front page post on a prominent newspaper in the Maldives announcing that a famous local film star endorsing a political party in the Maldives. A couple of pictures of this actress waving at the party supporters and signing the endorsement were also shown along the article.

This followed similar endorsements by more entertainers into the same political party. Controversially, the name of the national football club was announced endorsing the party candidate. This was a tactic used by political parties to lure the supporters or fans of these entertainers to side with their ideologies.

For me, this was very lame campaigning strategy. It doesn’t matter if Michael Moore endorsed Barack Obama in the US, or if Niuma Mohamed endorses DRP in the Maldives. I’m afraid I would go for the manifestos of the parties and the eligibility of the candidates. I’m educated enough not to listen to some local entertainers or celebrities, but rather myself.

There are a number of entertainers that I would support as being good actors, actresses or singers. It definitely doesn’t mean that they have a right to bring me down with them into their political viewpoint. They are just entertainers; they can just pucker their lips and dance away like they do in Bollywood, that’s all they are to me.

I’m sorry but I’m not too impressed by their involvement in campaigning or even endorsing politicians. If only a number of academics had endorsed these parties then I may take a second look into their manifestos. Maybe a number of ignorant citizens or some people with a ‘what the f**k am I doing’ mind may be attracted to this bullshit, not me.

Whether this tactic is used by DRP, MDP, RP or any other, I think its just lame campaigning. I think we are a well educated society now, and we should use our own brain on these issues. We should not leave it for the entertainers to decide our political future. It’s merely disgusting and ignorant. Again, it’s just me, so spite me.
